As Iruka worries about Naruto's match, Kabuto is up to no good. He kills an ANBU for his attire and enters the Chuunin arena.
The action is continuing as an army of Naruto clones are attacking Neji with all they have. Neji stands toe to toe with them, and then, with a swift run through the Naruto crowd, he attacks what he thinks is the real Naruto, the one who attacks the least because he feared his tenketsu would be hit. Neji strikes and several clones disappear. From behind, Naruto laughs, assuring Neji that he's been attacking full force and admits to using that clone as a diversion.
The two continue their battle as Naruto attacks and Neji does his spinning defense technique - Hakkeshou Kaiten (Divination Whirl) - which knocks Naruto back. Again, Naruto Kage Bunshins to surround Neji, but with his defense, no one can touch him. The moment Neji is attacked, he releases an enormous amount of Chakra from every chakra hole in his body. He intercepts his enemy's attack with the chakra and then spins his body to parry the attack. Normally, controlling the amount of chakra released from the chakra holes is difficult, and even a Jounin can only release a small amount from his hands and feet for a special move. Neji, who has mastered the Jyuuken, can release chakra from his entire body to nullify physical attacks with his chakra's centrifugal force. In that regard, his defense is greater than Gaara's sand. Hiashi watches, impressed that Neji could learn a Head family technique on his own.
Neji then prepares for his final attack - Hakke Rokujuuyonshou - Divination Field, 64 Strikes - and lunges spinning at Naruto, striking 64 times to close each of Naruto's tenketsu points. A chakra-less Naruto flies backwards to the ground. Again, Hiashi is impressed that a branch member could learn this move and wonders if maybe Hizashi should have succeeded the Hyuuga family.
Not willing to admit defeat, Naruto struggles to his feet as Neji taunts him for following the illusion of silly dreams. Visions of Lee and Hinata motivate him to keep going. Meanwhile, in the stands, Hinata starts coughing and requires medical attention. An ANBU who was watching the match from behind comes to her aid.
Neji warns Naruto that the match is over. He can't fight without chakra, and Neji holds no grudge against him nor desires to kill him. Naruto responds that may be so, but he holds one against Neji. He can't imagine what would possess someone as strong as he is to ridicule and attack Hinata when she was trying her best. While he doesn't understand the politics of the Hyuuga clan, he thinks Neji is a bastard for hurting her.
Neji proceeds to tell the story of the Branch family's fate. The Head family has a curse seal technique that has been in the family for generations. It marks those bound by destiny. He then removes his forehead protector to reveal an 'x'. He explains that he received the detestable seal when he was 4. On that day, there was a ceremony in Konoha to celebrate a peace treaty and new alliance with the Country of Lightning. The Lightning's Hidden Village of Cloud had sent their head ninja as their representative. The Hyuuga clan was the only clan not to participate in the festivities that day because that day was also the third birthday of the head family's successor, Hinata-sama, and the day when he was engraved with the seal.
Neji explains that his father, Hizashi, and Hinata's father, Hiashi, were twins, but Hiashi was born first and thus became a head family member. Hizashi was born second and condemned to the branch family. Hizashi never respected the Head family, and one day when Hiashi was training Hinata, he byakuganed and prepared to attack her. Hiashi immediately came to Hinata's rescue and activated the cursed seal, which caused Hizashi intense head pains. Hiashi warned him not to forget his fate. The cursed seal is there to protect the Bloodline Limit and to protect the Head family against any Branch members who may turn on them. It limits his byakugan abilities and will only disappear at death.
One night, Hinata was almost kidnapped. Hiashi caught and killed the perpetrator, the Lightning Country's head ninja, in the act of committing his crime. They wanted the byakugan technique for themselves. After that, the Lightning Country claimed that Konoha had broken their treaty by killing their head ninja and demanded the head of the Hyuuga clan. Soon after, Konoha's relationship with Lightning became strained and Konoha gave into Lightning's demands to avert another war. However instead of Hiashi, Konoha gave Lightning Hizashi. Because he was born second, his fate was sealed and he was the one to die over Hiashi.
Similarly, Naruto's fate was decided when they became opponents in this match.
